Packed to the brim with wrecks and cautions, Pocono’s HighPoint.com 400 Cup Series had fans on the edge of their seats. Bringing out the first caution of the race was Rick Ware Racing’s #15 driver, J. J. Yeley, who wiped out during the initial laps of stage one. The rest of stage one went by without much fuss, with Joey Logano grabbing the stage one win.

Daniel Suarez falls victim to 23XI Racing driver

Expecting to carry his winning streak into stage two, Joey Logano’s hopes crumbled quickly. During the stage two restart on lap 36, a bump sent Sliced Bread into a spin, causing him to run into the outer wall. Daniel Suarez’s #99 Chevy followed suit in the ensuing carnage, careening across the track. Entering a spin, the #99 Chevy slammed into the SAFER barriers. With the two cars spun out on the track, the third caution of the race was flown. While Logano’s car had to be towed out, Daniel Suarez’s #99 car limped back to Pit Road with a mangled front fascia.

In a bid to patch up the crumpled hood of the #99 machine, the Trackhouse Racing crew chopped up bits and pieces of the front bumper, sending the car back out. Daniel Suarez was forced to pit once again for the final time, as his team deemed the car irreparable. During Logano and Suarez’s wipeout, it was unclear what or who caused the #99 to wreck, but the Trackhouse Racing driver soon cleared the air.

Stepping out from the infield care center, Suarez revealed, “The crazy thing is that #34 (Michael McDowell) and #23 (Bubba Wallace) are the ones that actually wrecked me. They didn’t mean it, but it’s funny. Those are the guys I am racing for points but, it is what it is. We have to just continue to work and go to Richmond and focus for that one.”
