Bubba Wallace, the Toyota Camry XSE #23 driver for 23XI Racing, currently looks forward to making it to the Cup Series playoffs. From the 14th position in the Cup Series, where he currently resides, it is not an impossible task, though. But was anyone aware of his addiction to movies? Finding comfort in a good movie after a tiresome day is something Bubba Wallace can relate to.

Whether it’s a thrilling adventure, a heartwarming drama, or a captivating mystery, movies have a way of providing an escape and allowing us to unwind. And Netflix’s “NASCAR: Full Speed” was no less. Wallace sat with Mike Bagley for a special edition of NASCAR Live Wide Open this week. During their conversation, Bagley brought up Christopher Nolan‘s magnum opus, Oppenheimer, which was released last year in July. Bagley mentioned that he missed out on the movie for fear of sitting straight for more than 3 hours. To this end, Bubba Wallace, who watched the movie, could not stop praising it. He even mentioned that he did not realize when time flew by while watching the movie.

Wallace said, “I was engaged the whole time. If you had told me that movie was 5 hours old, I wouldn’t know it. I was locked in. Coz I was so intrigued, and I knew what I was told. Like, all the shows that they do when they drop the bomb. Okay, nah they did that. It’s just everything leading up to it. No spoiler alerts, great movie, great film!”

The movie was a masterpiece in its true sense and received worldwide recognition from critics. Today, Nolan received another admirer of his work in the 30-year-old NASCAR driver, Bubba Wallace. The movie revolves around the story of eminent physicist Robert J. Oppenheimer, the father of the atomic bomb. It dates back to the 1940s, when Oppenheimer and his team managed to get on with the production of the first-ever nuke in human history.

The movie also stars celebrated actors like Cillian Murphy, Robert Downey Jr, and Emily Blunt. Their combined efforts and Nolan’s vision brought them seven prestigious Oscars on March 11. The film bagged the Academy Awards for Best Actor, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Score, Best Actor in a Supporting Role, etc.

The 23XI Racing star reveals his favorite genre

When asked about his movie preferences, Bubba Wallace shared that he has a soft spot for horror movies and psychological thrillers. However, he couldn’t help but express his frustration with the current quality of acting in these genres. The subpar performances in today’s films tend to irritate him. He also believes that contemporary movies lack the same level of passion and craftsmanship exhibited by actors during the golden era of Hollywood.

Wallace is currently gearing up for the next Cup Series race, with his sights set on securing a favorable starting position. At Bristol Motor Speedway’s challenging half-mile oval, Wallace aims to leverage his experience and strive for a top finish. Tyler Reddick, the other driver in 23XI Racing, had a disappointing start as well. His best stint was finishing as P2 in Sin City, below Kyle Larson. He, too, would look forward to turning the tables going forward.
