Possibly the most spoken-about bromance in the NASCAR world is that of Bubba Wallace and Team Penske star, Ryan Blaney. The two 2023 playoff drivers first came across each other when they were just getting to know the wheel. Blaney had begun his career in quarter-midgets and Wallace in go-karts. Eventually, their paths crossed when they faced each other in bandolero cars, and from there on, a deep friendship began to take root.

Sustaining in the top tier of the sport through the years, the duo are the best of friends even now. Ahead of the race at Talladega, a reporter posed a question about Wallace’s offseason plans, and to no one’s surprise, it included his buddy, Ryan Blaney.

At 29 years old, both Wallace and Blaney are yet to win Cup Series championships in their career. While the 23XI Racing star has been in the top tier since 2018, Blaney’s experience precedes him by 3 years. However, as things stand, all scales are equal and the 2023 season has provided both these drivers a golden shot at claiming their maiden championship.

Currently sitting in the round of 12, the duo will be hoping to grab a win for their individual selves at the Talladega Superspeedway. However, keeping ambitions and desire aside, they have already begun prepping themselves to make the most out of time when the season ends.

Speaking to the press in the Talladega pre-race conference, Wallace revealed their plan which involved taking a trip to Australia and New Zealand along with their girlfriends. He said, “We were talking about it this morning – myself, and (Ryan) Blaney. He and his girlfriend Gianna (Tulio). Amanda (Wallace, wife) and I were talking about going to Australia and New Zealand for two weeks, and my wife is a massive planner.” Continuing to talk about how flight ticket rates were astronomically high, he disclosed why it was all the more important for him to proceed to the next round of the contest.

Continuing to detail his offseason plans Wallace talked about how they usually plan way ahead but hadn’t done so this year. He mentioned that the prices of flight tickets get steeper the longer they wait, he said, “I know if we continue to wait, plane tickets are going to be astronomical, which is more motivation to get to the next round to accept that bonus to pay for those tickets.” With the competition that Wallace is going to face at Talladega, particularly from Blaney, realizing that wish can be easier said than done.

The last time the duo raced each other at the Talladega, Wallace crashed out of the race that he was poised to win, thanks to a last-lap wreck with the Team Penske driver. At the time, the 23XI Racing star had taken responsibility for the incident and said, “I just got dumped by (Blaney). I threw a late block – close, close block. Not (Blaney’s) fault. I honestly thought that he would leave me high and dry going back around.” Going to the track again, he will be hoping to avoid a repeat of a misfortune on similar lines.
