The reconfigured racetrack at Atlanta Motor Speedway delivered an entertaining race, for better or worse. A race that was full of cautions, lead changes, and of course, wrecks. But perhaps no wreck was worse than the one that took place towards the very end. A wreck that delivered the worst-hit Bubba Wallace has had in his career so far.

The 23XI Racing driver went from a place to have a shot at the win to being bamboozled around within seconds, something which was worse than it looked for him.

Wallace’s spotter, Freddie Kraft, recently revealed the severity of the impact of the wreck, calling the part of the track where it happened, “probably the worst possible place” where one can be involved in such an incident.

“It’s as hard as Bubba’s ever hit the wall,” Kraft said. “People talk about Pocono but yesterday the abrupt stop he came to yesterday, I knew he was gonna be, the wind was gonna be knocked out of (him) pretty bad.”

“He could not talk, I don’t know for a minute, a minute and a half or so. I could hear him trying to catch his breath.”

“I was trying to get a run on Byron. He did a really good job, his car was fast, and he was lifting to kind of block the run, which was the right thing to do,” Wallace said.

“So when the bottom [was] coming, I went down to block it and thought I had a good run to not let the 1 [of Ross Chastain] get inside, and he got inside, and it was all good because I knew they would stall out a little bit.”

Overall, it was yet another weekend to forget for Bubba Wallace, who somehow can’t finish off the job this season despite smelling the sweet smell of success. His spotter also added that the end result “obviously sucked“, that it’s “super frustrating” to be in positions to win races and simply not getting it done.
