For the past couple of weeks, the Stewart-Haas Racing camp has been a hive of activity. After a lot of speculation, Chase Briscoe has officially been confirmed to take over the reins of the #14 car from Clint Bowyer. The Stewart-Haas Racing (SHR) team was keen to find a worthy successor, as Bowyer is set to walk away from NASCAR at the end of the season.

On the subject of successors, the team had been keeping a very close eye on Briscoe and monitoring his performance. Needless to say, he was hugely impressive and is right in the thick of the battle to win the Xfinity Series title.

“In the final three races last season, we saw a confidence in Chase that we hadn’t seen before,” Stewart said.

There was a transformation, and I think those three races last year were a preview of what we were going to see this year. He’s delivered time and time again this season and he’s definitely ready for the NASCAR Cup Series.”

Were there any other contenders for the seat, aside from Chase Briscoe?

It is also worth noting that SHR co-owner Tony Stewart was also keen to rope in Kyle Larson. Larson fell out of favor with NASCAR and his team for some questionable actions away from the track. To be precise, he dropped a racial slur live on a game stream that was being broadcast worldwide.

Months later, Stewart believes that Larson has served his penance. Since then, he urged NASCAR to reinstate the driver.

He said, “NASCAR has gotta get off their a** and do the right thing and give this kid an opportunity to get back in a car. I think he’s paid his penalty and he’s served the penalty long enough where you know we’ve had similar instances in the sport that have happened and the penalties didn’t last as near as long as this has lasted with Kyle.”

While this is not an open declaration that he wanted Larson at Stewart-Haas Racing, Tony Stewart really liked the man. Sadly for Larson, things did not work in his favor, thus the search continues. Meanwhile, Chase Briscoe will be thrilled about his appointment and promotion to the Cup Series among the big boys.
