Chase Elliott went to the Charlotte Roval as a favorite to win on the road course there. He lived up to the expectations from him and booked a spot into the Round of 8 with a win. However, now is where Elliott’s big challenge comes in.

In four appearances in the Round of 8 before this one, Elliott has always faced elimination. He is yet to reach the championship race and to make things trickier, the upcoming tracks are not among his best. Elliott, though, feels his current approach is strong enough to challenge the regular title contenders and he does not want to change things.

We’re just trying to build on what we have. Get better and not try to recreate or re-do things or do things different. I think our approach is plenty good enough to compete and be a contender,” Elliott said ahead of the Round of 8 opener at Kansas Speedway.

What Chase Elliott feels he needs to be a title contender

The Hendrick Motorsports star feels the key to being a championship contender and making the championship race, in the first place, is being one of the favorites at every track. A lot has been talked about Elliott’s road course supremacy. However, he wants to be known for more than that.

There’s been certain tracks over the years that have stood out consistently year after year. That have kept us from good runs, and places that we kinda are not the most excited about going to,” Elliott said.

We just have to improve in certain areas. I think inconsistency has been a problem. We want to be able to win races, but we want to be able to win races everywhere,” he added on the same.

The first step in that direction for Elliott will be bettering his latest performance of 12th place in Kansas. He has proved himself at the track in the recent past, though. The other time Elliott finished 12th at Kansas before the last race, he returned with 1st, 4th, and 2nd place finishes.
