Chase Elliott is close to ending his drought of 42 winless Cup Series races as he heads to Texas. At least, that is what most of us are feeling after Elliott’s recent run of results. After a mediocre start to his 2024 season, the driver of the No. 9 HMS car has managed to secure back-to-back top-five finishes at Richmond and Martinsville. This has allowed him to get back to running for wins and build momentum for the huge turnaround he is looking for.

However, speaking before today’s main event at the mile-and-a-half race track in Texas, Elliott shared some insights about his season. Stating that he is content with the improvements and positive changes made to his team.

The 2023 season was a nightmare for the HMS star. Not only did he hit career-low results, but he also had to deal with injuries after the snowboarding accident. Luckily, Elliott and his crew seemed to have buried the unfortunate outing and are now looking to build on the streak of solid finishes.

In an interview with Bob Pockrass, Elliott shared his thoughts about building momentum and how his solid runs have not translated to good finishes. “I think momentum is just a product of doing a good job you know and that might not always correlate to necessarily having good finishes. So I think it’s easy to look at a couple of good finishes but I kind of look at just as product that we brought to the racetrack throughout the entire year has been much improved from where we’ve been for a majority of the last year.”

He even explained that improvements and upgrades were well in place; it’s just that he wasn’t able to convert the good runs. “I feel like we’ve had just as productive weeks and positive weeks like we did last weekend and throughout this season maybe we finish 10th or something. So the improvement has been there and we certainly need to keep that rolling and hope it translates to good finishes.”

A win at Texas Motor Speedway would be huge for Elliott. Considering that he’s run into trouble running at the race track and hasn’t been to victory lane in 13 attempts.

The 1.5-mile intermediate race track was one of the places where the 28-year-old found joy in racing in his early days. He had consistent top-five or top-ten runs when he drove the No. 24 Chevy, but ever since the reconfiguration of the race track, he has struggled to churn out better results. Last fall, he did run well, but he had to be content with a #11 finish.

However, despite his struggles at the venue, he is optimistic about his chances based on the experience he has gained racing over the years. “Looking back through the last race that we ran out here in the fall we were actually really competitive and that event had a shot at it. I wouldn’t say we had the pace, I thought Denny and Kyle were the best two cars as they have been, and certainly William a part of that conversation as well. I would like to think we made some gains here, I do think I have made some gains,” Chase Elliott said via Frontstretch.

Chase Elliott has finally hit the stride with a good running car and momentum. Now all he needs is to deliver the goods when the green flag drops today at Texas Motor Speedway.
