Earlier, the Hendrick Motorsports team suffered a big blow to their hopes at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. This was because the 2020 Cup Series champion Chase Elliott got injured in a snowboarding accident. As a result, he fractured his left leg and will not be able to race for a while.
For now, Josh Berry will deputize for Elliott as the latter begins his recovery from his injury. Despite that, the 27-year-old was in fine spirits.
He even addressed a running joke in the NASCAR community.

It has come to my attention that the formal request I submitted for a slight edit to the March section of my script was indeed… declined.

Some people have suggested that the NASCAR Cup Series was ‘scripted’. Admittedly, the origins of such rumors were unclear, but many in the NASCAR community treated it as a bit of a joke.
Among them was Elliott himself, who, on Twitter, jokingly suggested that his ‘script’ needed a slight edit. Unfortunately, the higher-ups sadly declined his corrections, so he would have to just grin and bear it.

What is next for Chase Elliott in the NASCAR Cup Series?
For now, Elliott can do nothing until his fractured leg heals up and doctors clear him to race. Of course, one would question whether Elliott can mount a comeback and challenge for the title after a long absence. However, one must also remember that in 2015, Kyle Busch was out of action for a long time due to an injury. In spite of that, he still managed to clinch the Cup Series title. So why can’t it be possible for Chase Elliott?

As for the accident, this would not have pleased Rick Hendrick at all. After all, no NASCAR team owner would be happy with one of his drivers competing in an activity where the injury risk is high. Hendrick did cut some slack for Kyle Larson to accommodate his own non-NASCAR exploits.

However, it would be interesting to see if Elliott’s injury could have a ripple effect on the team. In other words, could it force Hendrick to clamp down on off-track activities?
