Of course, he is no novice to the world of NASCAR, having watched his father, Bill Elliott, charm racing audiences himself. Many also regarded the 1988 Cup Series champion as one of the most talented drivers.

Therefore, it makes complete sense when Chase looks up to his father, especially in the segment that is road courses. He touches upon Mr. Bill’s contribution in sharpening his racing knowledge on such tracks.

I feel my father was a really good road course racer, said son Chase Elliott

Elliott said, “Honestly, I’ve talked to my dad more about road-course racing than anybody.”

The 2020 Cup Series champion has taken a shine to road courses, having won the last 4 of 5 Cup races in this category of racetracks. Chase has also said that his father was a great road course racer himself, so maybe it is very much in the genes!

“He was, I feel like, a really good road course racer, very underrated, throughout his career, so he’s been helpful probably more than anybody else over there,” concluded Elliott Jr.

The Hendrick Motorsports star recently tire tested at the COTA track

Elliott recently graced the famed Circuit of The Americas (COTA) racetrack as part of a Goodyear tire testing session. With his road course skills, there is probably a reason why NASCAR and their official tire supplier wanted him to help them with key feedback pointers.

Meanwhile, the No.9 has begun his title defense season in somewhat decent fashion. After a stunning 2nd-place at Daytona 500, Elliott looked good for another Top-5 finish at the Daytona Road course. Ultimately, though, he could only muster up a 21st place finish.

He now sits 5th in the drivers’ standings after another sub-par performance at Homestead-Miami. Hence, the idea for him would be to go ahead and create a run that gives him some confidence.
