Chase Elliott Reveals Learnings From His Father Bill Elliott and Jimmie Johnson Ahead of Maiden Championship Race

Among the 4 contenders for the NASCAR Cup Series title, Chase Elliott is the one with all the momentum after his win in Martinsville.
However, Joey Logano, Brad Keselowski, and Denny Hamlin have the experience of competing in a championship race in the past, while Elliott made it to the Final 4 for the first time.
Despite having no experience of the demands of the ‘Championship 4’ race to win a title, Elliott considers himself very lucky. That is because he can lean on words of advice from 2 former NASCAR Cup Series champions on how to approach Sunday’s race. One of them is his father, while the other is a 7-time NASCAR Cup Series champion.

Speaking in the build-up to Sunday’s race at Phoenix Raceway, Elliott expressed what he learned from 1988 champion Bill Elliott and his Hendrick Motorsports teammate Jimmie Johnson.
Chase Elliott gains from invaluable advice
“For me, I’m very lucky. My dad obviously has had great success over the years, has been around this deal for a long time. Obviously, Jimmie is a great one to lean on, too,” Elliott said during a media interaction.
When it comes to Bill Elliott, the advice for Chase comes not only as a former champion but also as his father. Chase revealed that his father believes the most important thing for Chase will be to enjoy the moment on Sunday.
“For me, the big thing from talking to dad that I feel like he’s kind of mentioned is just enjoy these moments. Because these aren’t things you can take for granted.
“You don’t know when your last race win is. You don’t what tomorrow brings. Nothing’s guaranteed, right?” Elliott said.
He vowed to make the most of the opportunity and enjoy it. He feels that such opportunities do not come so frequently. That makes it more important to enjoy them whole heartedly.

“You wish you could just slow down time and enjoy that moment and make it last a little longer, but you can’t. You just have to enjoy ’em as much as you can, put emphasis on that,” Elliott continued.
He understood the importance of that piece of advice and plans to inculcate the same come Sunday.
“I feel like that’s where I’m at right now, is not taking the situation for granted, knowing it’s not an easy thing. Knowing it’s not something that comes every day, try to make the most of a great opportunity,” Elliott added.

Elliott has time and again expressed the importance of winning throughout the Playoffs. Even ahead of the Martinsville race, Elliott focused only on racing to win, while many others in his place would have focused on gaining points and staying safe.
