Recently, Hendrick Motorsports driver Chase Elliott made an appearance in Corey LaJoie’s Stacking Pennies podcast. On the podcast, the two of them talked about the recently concluded race at the Atlanta M0tor Speedway. The duo had actually battled for the race win at Atlanta, lasting until LaJoie wrecked.

The 2020 Cup Series champion confessed that he could not properly celebrate the victory.

He said, “I wish my family had been there. That was the first Atlanta race that they missed, in probably ever. That was a bit of a bummer, but there’s something different about it. When you have a track that close to home and you kind of feel the energy be a little different.

With this win, the #9 driver has racked up three Cup wins this season. This places him as the driver with the most wins, in a really unpredictable campaign. The unpredictable elements include multiple drivers winning races and we are close to crossing 16 winners.

What makes it worse for many drivers is that there are still seven races left in the regular season. At the same time, there are just a couple of slots left.

Elliott’s win at the Atlanta Motor Speedway grants some respite for the drivers at the lower end. However, it could have very easily been Corey LaJoie booking an unexpected, but not unwelcome, berth in the Playoffs. LaJoie’s last lap crash was the difference between having one less qualifying playoff spot and a repeat winner. For Chase Elliott, he will be hoping to keep up the momentum and win more races.
