There’s a notion amongst NASCAR fans, well, at least some of them, that Chase Elliott is sometimes given a little helping hand by the officiating and the decision-making. Had that been the case, how would you explain what happened toward the end at ROVAL?

A caution came out, and Elliott, who would’ve more or less managed to hold on to the checkered flag, ended up with a completely different outcome.

This was something he addressed in his post-race interview, along with sharing his thoughts on the sponsor board in the middle of the track.

“You always expect the caution and so no longer how long I’m going to wait to throw on, if they don’t get one, naturally,” he said of the caution.

“I never even saw a sign that tells you anything? But I’m also really stupid, so I struggle to see things in general or know what day it is or whatever,” the #9 driver said of the sponsor board. “It could have been there for 100 laps, it could have been there for one lap, I really don’t know.”

At this point, it’s worth taking a look at some of the fan reactions from this season so far which insinuate Chase Elliott being the favored driver in NASCAR’s eyes.

Chase Elliott feels NASCAR is going backwards

Amidst the ongoing safety crisis with the Next Gen car that has seen two major names being sidelined, Kurt Busch for months now and Alex Bowman for two races, Chase Elliott opened up on what it, unfortunately, translates for the sport.

“These types of incidents that result in injuries … I’m not a doctor, but I’ve watched a lot of cars back into the wall and the guy would be fine,” he said. “No one’s immune to it. It could be me next week. It could be any of my peers or fellow competitors.”

“I just hate to see us go backward, and I’m afraid that we have.”

With that said, do you think NASCAR will be able to fix the Next Gen problem now that their most popular driver has made such comments?
