Many fans, drivers, teammates, tracks, and teams have run some touching tributes for Jimmie Johnson over the last few weeks and months. However, manufacturer Chevrolet came up with the most innovative and unique tribute of them all.
In this weekend’s edition of USA Today, Chevrolet is running a full-page advertisement as a tribute to Johnson. While running an advertisement is nothing new, the manner in which the advertisement appears makes it extremely special.
The advertisement is in the form of a micrographic collage that forms an image of the NASCAR legend. It is made up of 120 written messages from Johnson’s fans and others from the NASCAR industry.

Johnson ran for Chevrolet his entire NASCAR career, driving the No. 48 car – which he turned into an iconic one – for Hendrick Motorsports.
Such dedication and commitment, along with the laurels that he earned throughout the course of his career, prompted Chevrolet to run such a great tribute.
Jimmie Johnson makes it memorable for his fans
Last weekend at Martinsville, Johnson ran a special paint scheme that featured the signatures of 10,000 fans. The No. 48 team’s sponsor Ally organized the tribute and 10,000 fans rode along with the champion driver through that tribute.
Many of Johnson’s competitors have spoken highly of Johnson over the past few weeks. Kyle Busch reminisced about one of their races together, calling Johnson ‘Superman’ in the process.
“We were running with each other in Chicagoland, and I was leading with 30 to go. Then here comes Johnson, Mr. Superman, always there when you don’t want him to be.
“He passes me with 10 laps to go, and then there was a caution,” Busch said of Johnson.

“Charisma about him”
Johnson’s final race is also the final outing for the Crew Chief who was atop his pit box for all his 7 titles. Chad Knaus will move to a higher role at Hendrick Motorsports in 2021.
But before that, he had something special to say for Johnson, that he realized after their first meeting. “We sat down and had lunch, and I realized he was way more than just your average race car driver.
“Had a charisma about him that was just needing to get out,” Knaus said of Johnson.
