Denny Hamlin’s rope and dope ain’t enough! Fans call out the driver despite his new claim

Last Sunday’s race had the thrills and frills of a blockbuster event, but little did the packed crowds in the stands know that they were in for an anti-climatic finish. In typical Denny Hamlin fashion, the 42-year-old crossed the checkered flag after a late tangle with his friend, Kyle Larson, snatching the lead in the closing laps and causing all the ruckus in the aftermath.

Fans, however, did not approve of Hamlin’s late bump and run as they rained down boos from the stands. While Hamlin outright dismissed any allegations, blaming Larson for coming into the corner wide and cleaning his hands after the act, his former HMS rival, Chase Elliott’s ardent fan, and the Elliott family’s biggest supporter, Dawsonville Pool Room.

That is not the case. Sorry. That’s not the case at all. I understand that’s the narrative that wants to be had, but it’s not a true one.”

While Kyle Larson got his day ruined after a brief reign at the top, winning stage 2. His hopes of acing the 2.5-mile Superspeedway came to an awful stop as the veteran in the closing laps rallied out to catch the #5 Chevy. The #11 Toyota caught Larson entering Turn 1. Prancing into action, Hamlin got on Larson’s left side.

With the racing nearing its finish in a couple of laps, 7 to be precise, both cars sped into turn 1, where the #11 car briefly nudged the Chevy leading it into the wall, squashing the HMS driver’s hopes. Furious with his friend, yet again snatching the win from him just like Kansas did earlier this season, Larson bumped Hamlin during caution, expressing his frustration.

Angered with the turnaround, the 2021 title holder finished the race 20th after being a race leader.
