Local artistry: mind-blowing graffiti takes over NASCAR tracks
NASCAR’s decision to move from Chicago’s famed Joliet Speedway to the heart of the city was a strategic move to reach new audiences and rekindle interest in the sport, as this race marks its 75th season. Their efforts are not in vain, as social media is buzzing about the work done by a local artist on some of the course walls. With some eye-catching graffiti mesmerizing the fandom, the racing weekend is already a hit among fans.

Kelly Crandall, a writer for RACER magazine, tweeted, “Really impressed w/ amount of grandstands put in. There’s also a lot of activation around the course. And holy cow, there are sections where the cars are so close to buildings, etc. The photos from the race are going to be cool.”
“This is cool as fu*k, ngl,” an enthusiastic fan commented.
“Garrett Smithley said where the Xfinity Series haulers/cars were, it was “so cool” because everyone driving by has their cell phones out,” a NASCAR insider tweeted.

While Chicago residents brace themselves for the highly anticipated NASCAR Chicago Street Race, authorities have announced significant road closures and traffic disruptions throughout the city. This has resulted in the community’s reaction to NASCAR taking over their streets to be diverse. Although many fans are thrilled to see their favorite drivers racing along their all too familiar roads, some have accused NASCAR of trying to attract a crowd uninterested in the sport. Some have even pointed out that Chicagoland Speedway, which hosted Cup Series races for nearly two decades, continues to sit dormant.

The Chicago Street Race president Julie Giese has assured the locals that Chicagoans should embrace the change and prepare for road closures and traffic disruptions in the downtown area.
