Corey Lajoie has just bagged the lottery. At least, a multiyear extension deal with Spire Motorsports can be safely equated with winning the lottery. As Corey Lajoie deftly secures the No. 7 Chevrolet for himself yet again, this time, it seems like he’s coming back with a bang. Before competing for NASCAR Cup Series full-time, Lajoie has also taken part in his fair share of Xfinity Series and Truck Series races. It seems like Corey is not ready to break the bond he had been working on since 2021, and would like to rebuild his racing team and take it to glory. 

In the latest episode of the Stacking Pennies with Corey Lajoie podcast, Lajoie breaks down exactly what he needs, and what teams should ideally need when building their teams and taking them to the next level. He also makes an official announcement of his partnership with Spire Motorsports. 

Corey Lajoie draws a comparison with contemporary NASCAR driver

True to the name of the podcast, Corey Lajoie actually gives a ‘stacks and pennies’ analysis of the recently covered Richmond race, and the crew members were all in support of what he had to say. Further, Corey Lajoie adds to this by taking the example of Michael McDowell, who worked really hard to make it to the Playoff’s top 16 list this season. Following was the conversation that he engaged in with his crew members.

“…And you had a great stack and pennies analogy for the race at Richmond that I let you lay out because it applies to that, it applies to the race, it applies to life, it applies to a career in the sport,” began one of his crew members. 

Corey had a sincere response to this. “Where you know I’ve spent and will continue to spend everything I’ve got to pour it into where I’m at to make it to where I feel like its capable of going. It’s not unfeasible for us to have a race analysis. 16th, 15th or 14th ……”

“-Michael McDowell?” he got asked.

“Yes, Michael McDowell. I don’t know how long he’s been with Frontrow, how many years. But I know that Dave had a 10-year head start to get them to the point of people of the process…. just footprint. Overall it’s hard to get that many people to build a strong team where we started 3 years ago. And it’s hard to find that good core group where we feel like we’ve established that. And I didn’t want to selfishly I don’t want anyone else to have it. Like I have built this thing so I’m going to keep it rolling,” he concluded. Michael McDowell and David Ragan both have had adequate scope to build on their racing team, and this is something Lajoie wants for his team too.

Corey has been racing for Spire for the past 2 years. He has had plenty of opportunities to switch to other teams. He has finished Top 5 in 2 races this season but has failed to grab a win as of yet. Spire Motorsports was in its growing stage when Corey Lajoie decided to take a chance with them. And now, Spire is keeping its faith in him. His best performance this season has been finishing 4th at the Atlanta Cup Series race and bagging at least 11 Top 20 positions throughout the year. 

Corey has been quite expressive about his desire to build his Spire Motorsports team into a competitive one with eye-grabbing achievements. Fans hope he can execute his plan by the time the 2024 season rolls in.
