Just how many times have we seen cartoons and animated movies and wondered, “That can never happen in real life!” But what about the Pixar movie ‘Cars’ that was inspired by NASCAR? Did that movie stay true to racing, if not physics and biology? Well, driver Corey LaJoie has all the answers.
Recently, a fan asked a question on Reddit which LaJoie happily answered. The question was, “In Cars, Lighting McQueen just gets gas not tires (to save time). Have real race car drivers ever done this?”
And the NASCAR driver replied, “Adding fuel only would shift the balance to the rear by more than 1.5%, so Lightning knew he could handle it over the green flag run considering the time delta. But if there was an untimely caution by Chick Hicks then he’d lose all track position when he comes down for tires.”

Has Corey LaJoie been featured in the Cars franchise?
The Cars franchise, which has three movies, has featured some of the biggest names from the history and the present of NASCAR. Unfortunately for LaJoie fans, he hasn’t been a part of the series.

The iconic movie series includes drivers like Richard Petty, Chase Elliott, Jeff Gordon, Daniel Suarez, Bubba Wallace, Ryan Blaney, Darrell Waltrip, and Dale Earnhardt Jr.
And in one instance, the series transcended stock car racing when it included Formula 1 superstar Lewis Hamilton in a cameo.

It cannot be overstated just how big an impact ‘Cars’ must’ve had on many, many ‘to-be’ NASCAR fans. Perhaps one day there will be a survey that determines how many fans grew up on these movies.

Until then, let’s hope that Cars fans can identify the difference between what’s real and what’s fiction. Because however brilliant the fiction of Cars may be, it can never surpass the magic of real NASCAR.
