NASCAR fans are known to be among the most passionate in the world and they recently made their feelings known about an incident between Corey LaJoie and Austin Cindric in the Cup Series race at the Circuit of the Americas. LaJoie has been in the sport for quite a while and has yet to win a race. He still has his fair share of fans and believers, but then again, there are some not so particularly fond of the Spire Motorsports star.

The incident took place in the very first lap of the race which saw the driver of the #7 cause a collision with three drivers – Bubba Wallace, Martin Truex Jr, and Austin Cindric. The Team Penske star sustained a lot of damage but was still able to finish the race in the top 20 and collect stage points.

Taking to X after the race, the driver of the #2 car tweeted about how his race went and hailed his team for bringing a fast car to the track. However, there was a sense of disappointment since the damage ruined Cindric’s race, which otherwise he could have perhaps finished in the top 10 and scored some good points.

He shared a picture of the engine later which showed some of the damage sustained due to the contact with Corey Lajoie on the first lap. “Drove a hot air balloon today. Proud of my team. Shame to not get to show our potential,” the driver of the #2 car wrote in his tweet.

NASCAR fans were quick to get on his case and while most of them praised the Team Penske star for his performance despite having damaged machinery, Corey Lajoie could not escape the line of fire of many.

One user commented that LaJoie should be arrested for his on-track antics on lap 1. “Corey Lajoie should be arrested,” they wrote. The rest of the tweets were mostly fans praising Cindric for his fantastic performance. “You ran a great race despite all the damage. Onto Richmond,” one user commented. “Finished 20th and got stage points with that damaged I’d call that a win,” quipped another.

It has not been a good few years in the Cup Series for Austin Cindric and fans want to see the driver of the #2 succeed again. Sunday might have seen that, but when circumstances did not allow for it, several fans were disappointed. “It’s a shame we didn’t get to see what you had. It looked pretty fast before the damage. Way to hang onto it all day,” one user commented.

“Taking a damaged car from the beginning of the race with only two yellows to a top 20 is not the easiest thing to imagine but you never gave up and I know you won’t give up at Richmond so best of luck Austin,” quipped another.
