NASCAR Announces Sad News Regarding the Next Gen Car Amid Coronavirus Crisis

NASCAR will be postponing the introduction of the Next-Gen vehicle due in 2021 because of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.NASCAR will now be introducing the highly awaited race vehicle in 2022. Earlier, they were planning to introduce the car at the 2021 Daytona 500.

The news follows a statement from NASCAR dating March 16 that the 2020 season will not start until May 3 due to the coronavirus. In spite of the deferral, NASCAR still intends to hold each of the 36 races.

John Probst, NASCAR’s senior vice president of racing innovation made a statement last week.

He said, “The decision was made in collaboration with the OEMs and team owners,”

“We will continue to develop the Next-Gen car. And a revised testing timeline will be shared when more information is available.”

They have not announced many technical details. However, we can be sure that the Next Gen vehicle has been designed with the end goal of making it look more like the production-spec models.

Next-Gen car’s real-world testing had already commenced in late 2019. And it has been tested on track several times this year. The last test took place in March with William Byron testing it around at the Auto Club Speedway in California. The development work is at a standstill by the suspension of NASCAR season and stay-at-home policies across the country amid coronavirus outbreak.

NASCAR Next Gen Challenger

The Next Gen vehicle, earlier known as the Gen-7 vehicle, is the regular name for the new racecar that teams will be using in the NASCAR Cup Series 2022. Further advancement of the Generation 6 vehicle, the Next Gen will highlight better aerodynamic and downforce bundles. And will be presenting a bunch of new advances on the track.

Additionally, It will feature an independent rear suspension, a six-speed sequential manual transmission, center-lock and single lug 18-inch aluminum wheels from BBS. Rumors say that the car will also feature a hybrid powertrain.
