The NASCAR community was in for a treat this Friday at the Adelaide Motorsports Festival in South Australia. The annual event, held a week before the Australian Grand Prix, got their introduction to a little bit of American stock-car flair this year as the spotlight fell on two iconic Hendrick Motorsports drivers and their iconic Gen 6 Chevrolet SSs.

Amidst the prestigious company of Group A Skylines and V8 Supercars, it was Dale Jr’s #88 SS with the purple-and-white 2013 National Guard paint scheme and Chase Elliott’s #9 NAPA Chevrolet, albeit with a modified engine, that had social media in a total frenzy.

Both Gen 6’s stood proudly embellishing the NASCAR flag as well as acting as the beacon for traditional American Motorsports in Australia, but it was Dale Jr’s #88 for HMS that had fans in a twist, saying things like, That Jr car is definitely something. Looks like a mix of stuff going on there.”

Many agreed, but this fan had some “aero” observations to make, pointing out the fact that the SS had no rear spoiler. As he replied, “Yeah that rear deck looks wonky.”

One fan jokingly wrote, Chase Elliott if he never ran the #24,” referencing the Georgia native’s 2015-2016 stints at HMS driving the #24 and the #25 Chevrolet SS entries fielded in the respective seasons.
