Goodyear was on the receiving end of a lot of flak from fans, drivers, and insiders after the Cup Series race at the Martinsville Speedway. The tire wear was not nearly enough for the Next Gen car on the short track and the race turned out to be boring. Perhaps that’s why Dale Earnhardt Jr decided to go with Hoosier’s ST2 tire for his CARS Tour series and the 2-time Xfinity Series champion is quite pleased with his decision after the latest race.

Despite being put out of comfort zone, Dale Earnhardt Jr hails Hoosier’s product

The CARS Tour recently ran at the New River All-American Speedway in North Carolina and Dale Earnhardt Jr was one of the drivers who took part in the event. It was a memorable day for Junior as he was beaming after the race. When asked about his choice of tires in the competition, the 49-year-old expressed satisfaction. The race started out a bit slow but as the tires fired up, things got quite interesting and it made for a fantastic finish. Junior himself finished P14.

“Yeah, actually loved the tire. The ST2 is a bit more durable, I love the tire conservation races and this tire is a little tougher so you can run it a little bit harder. I think if there are 30 cars out there, there’s gonna be about a dozen drivers that don’t really know how to save and keep the car off the right rear and that works in my favor because I feel like I really know how to keep the right rear underneath the car for the whole race so this tire kind of works against that so it’s made it tougher for me to try to figure out how to move the car forward because the tire’s just tougher and guys are able to beat it up a little more during the race. It plays into a few drivers’ hands in our series,” he said after the event.

The decision about the tire manufacturer is not just taken by Dale Earnhardt Jr. Several others are involved in the process as well, like Jeff Burton and Kevin Harvick. Well, it seems like they made a good decision and took a step in the right direction.

Despite the race starting slow, Junior believes that the tires have made the cars go a whole second faster than last season. That is a significant jump in speed. It’s also something that’s quite satisfying for the owners of a new competition. The aim will be to keep getting better with each passing year. Thankfully, the CARS Tour is in good hands.

“I guess at the end, we’ll see less riding, less…yes the pace was slow for the first 45 laps but it was a second faster than it was last year. That’s the goal. When me and Jeff Burton and Harvick are just sitting around and talking about what do we need to fix, that was one of the things that those guys really wanted to work on and this tire has helped us move in the right direction and get the cars racing. Yes there are gonna be races where you have to ride and save a little bit but we certainly took a step forward as a series tonight with the ST2 tires,” Jr added.

It will be interesting to see how these NASCAR legends help the CARS Tour grow into one of the biggest racing competitions in the country, and maybe even globally.
