Petty believes Larson has gotten into his teammate’s head

During the race in Fontana, the world got to see the unhinged, angry version of Chase Elliott. While this wasn’t the first time the 2020 Cup champion had expressed his anger on track, what stood out this time around was the driver who was on the receiving end of his rant, his own teammate.

Kyle Larson, who went on to win the race in Southern California, had unknowingly shoved his teammate into the wall, adding more misery to his already miserable day.

This led to Elliott ranting against the defending champion on his radio, which Kyle Petty thinks, is a sign of Larson’s success getting in Elliott’s head.

At 3’O’clock in the morning when you wake up. And you’re laying there in bed and you’re staring at the ceiling, your teammate won 10 races and a championship. It tears your butt up,” Petty said in a recent interview.

“You can’t go back to sleep,” he added. “Because that’s where Kyle Larson has gotten under Chase (Elliott), and gotten into Chase’s head.”

Not this accident. This is just a little spur, this is just a little burn in the saddle.”
