Dale Earnhardt Jr Breaks His Silence on Kyle Larson’s “Big Damn Deal” Announcement

It’s not every day that a NASCAR driver decides to take on the challenge of competing in the prestigious Indianapolis 500. But when Kyle Larson announced his plans to race in the 2024 INDY500, the racing world took notice. Dale Earnhardt Jr recently weighed in on the topic during an episode of his podcast, The Dale Jr. Download.

In conversation with Sterling Marlin, Dale Jr acknowledged the buzz surrounding Larson’s decision, calling it “a very, very anticipated event.” He pointed out that Larson is young, in his prime, and winning “anything and everything he drives.” He added that, while the news may not be generating a lot of buzz at the moment, once the race is upon us, “that’ll be a big damn deal.”

Larson, who has made waves in the NASCAR Cup Series, will be joining a small but elite group of drivers who have attempted to tackle both NASCAR and IndyCar.

The INDY500 is considered one of the most difficult races in the world, with 33 drivers battling it out for 200 laps on the 2.5-mile oval track at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Despite the challenges that come with competing in the INDY500, Larson’s success in NASCAR has shown that he has the skill and determination to compete at the highest level. In a career spanning just over a decade in Cup Series, he has already racked up 19 wins and 146 top-ten finishes.

Dale Jr and Marlin also discussed other topics, including the recent episode of Danny Hamlin’s new podcast, “Actions Detrimental.” Hamlin discussed his thoughts on the current state of NASCAR racing, including the rigidness of the cars and the bumper tags that have caused headaches for drivers.
