Dale Earnhardt Jr, arguably one of the most popular drivers, ever since his blue retirement in 2017 has kept a yearly tradition going. The 49-year-old has kept the ball rolling, participating in at least one Xfinity Series race per year, gracing his fans with a cameo, and keeping himself in the racing groove.

However, the JR Motorsports co-owner isn’t in it just to satisfy himself, quenching his need for speed. Speaking to former NASCAR driver Jamie McMurray, Dale Jr. revealed the true reason why he continues to do what he is doing, i.e., to continue racing.

Beyond being the fierce competitors they are on the track, racing at mind-bending speeds, and chasing the gold while they make quick decisions, NASCAR drivers have a lot riding on them. Starting with the community’s expectations, drivers like Dale Jr. have a reputation to keep.

The 2-time Daytona winner ever since his forced retirement from NASCAR has been active in the sport, being a competent analyst, calling the race from the commentary booth while occasionally putting on the helmet to keep his yearly tradition alive. Despite the head trauma from all the beatings and banging that he endured in his time, the veteran is still gracing the community with his presence by donning the role of a driver, like when he raced in Homestead a couple of days ago.

The veteran had a special guest on the studio floor. Jamie McMurray, the 7-time Cup Series race winner, was the main attraction of the show this week. Speaking on his popular Dale Jr. Download podcast, Junior shared the real reason why he gets in the car once every year when McMurray revealed his motivation to be in the driver seat of a race car, saying, “I would totally go back and do that but probably not for the reason you think. I would go back and do it for my son.”

The JRM co-owner then revealed his inspiration to be his daughter. He said, “I’m going to tell you, man. That is probably 50–60% of the reason why I run the Xfinity races, and I really was doing it for myself until I took my girls, and then I was like, Oh man, I got to keep doing this because she doesn’t remember.”

The two fathers shared a moment there when the two drivers opened up, saying that their children are the real reason why they keep on racing, suiting up for the high-speed lanes.

As mentioned above, despite his early retirement from NASCAR, Dale Jr. has played a pivotal role in restoring the sport, bringing back its former glory with persistent efforts. The veteran played a huge role in bringing back Cup Series action to the iconic North Wilkesboro track that went through extensive restoration procedures to host the All-Star races.

While the race received mixed responses from fans, despite the unpaved surface making driver’s day a lot more grueling and eating away tires, Junior was successful in bringing the iconic venue back into the schedule. His CARS Tours series has also seen a rise in popularity as its main emphasis is on short-track racing, which was once NASCAR’s best product.

Since making his last stop in November, with his recent appearance coming in September, the veteran is once again returning to Florence Motor Speedway for the South Carolina 400. He will compete in the Late Model Extravaganza on November 18th, bringing more eyes to the local spectacle.
