Dale Earndhart Jr is still a part of the racing community, despite retiring from racing at the end of the 2017 season. After giving his years to NBC, he will now be joining the TNT sports broadcast team. Although he has full-time duties with JR Motorsports as well as CARS Tour, retiring from racing and working on the other side has still come with a cost. Recently Junior opened up about the reality check that comes with his post-retirement duties, especially during his initial days when he started his new position as a broadcaster.

What are the post-retirement hiccups for Dale Earnhardt?

The two-time Daytona 500 winner took up the role of an on-air commentator with NBC Sports after his retirement. He’s been doing a tremendous job of providing racing insights during the races as well as Dale Jr Download, where he discusses the best moves and wrecks and shares his views and thoughts. He’s known for his candid comments and unpopular opinions on drivers as well as the sport.

In a recent episode of the same, Junior has spoken about himself and opened up about the difficulties during his initial broadcasting days. It looks like the transition from a racing driver to a broadcaster was not a smooth ride. Even Junior had second thoughts about being critical of drivers whom he had once raced against.

“I’ve experienced, but you know, I found it challenging to even go into a broadcast and be critical of the driver that I was friends with or competed with, but you have to you have to handle it how you see it or tell the truth, right?” he said.

Further explaining how he sometimes had to make decisions that would get him in some hot waters, whether it was a certain fan base or a driver, Dale Earnhardt Jr said, “When you know you’ve got to make a decision that’s not going to be very popular,  whether it’s popular with a fan base, popular with this race team, popular with this owner, penalizing a driver, for example.”

After working with NBC since 2018, TNT Sports confirmed that Hall of Farmer will be a part of TNT’s broadcast team starting next season. Along with joining TNT Sport, Junior will also be a part of the 2025 launch broadcast team for Prime Video.

According to Forbes, beginning in 2025, under the terms of the recently agreed-upon seven-year media deal, which began in 2025, FOX Sports will broadcast the first fourteen races of the season. “Dale Earnhardt Jr. is beloved in the NASCAR world and has made numerous contributions to NBC Sports, from his work as an analyst on our NASCAR coverage to his experiences as a correspondent at major events like the Indianapolis 500, the Kentucky Derby, the Super Bowl and the Olympics. Switching from NBC to join another broadcasting series like Amazon Prime is a huge change for the 49-year-old. And as Dale Earnhardt Jr continues in his journey of providing the best for motorsports fans, the concerns remain the same.
