On Saturday, the NASCAR weekend concluded at the Martinsville Speedway. As it turned out, the action during the Xfinity Series race never stopped. This was because an infuriated Ty Gibbs stormed up to Sam Mayer and literally fought with him.

During the brawl, an official tried to step in to break it up and calm everyone down.

In light of this, Dale Earnhardt Jr. jokingly compared the official to the late wrestler Paul Bearer. In response to that, Hamlin found Earnhardt Jr’s observation hilarious.

But on a more serious note, they all know that the brawl left an ugly blemish on the sport. It was all the more embarrassing because both Mayer and Gibbs are still very young and impressionable.

What makes this even worse is the fact that people, especially younger children, look up to them as role models. Moreover, this also adversely impacts the image of NASCAR as a whole. It is also worth mentioning that one official even had to visit the medical center to get checked out.

Denny Hamlin will soon turn his focus onto the next race

Now that the Martinsville Speedway race weekend is over, it is time for the next race. In the coming week, the paddock pays a visit to the Bristol Motor Speedway dirt track. This will pretty much be the first time the Next-Gen car will tackle the dirt track in a race situation. Very recently, there was a Next Gen test conducted at the Bristol dirt track. Stewart Friesen was the lucky driver to get a shot at running in the car.

Of course, that was only a test, and the real race could be a completely different story. It is also worth mentioning that the Truck Series will also run at the venue, while the Xfinity paddock gets a break. In all honesty, this break could be exactly what the sport needs to recover from the Gibbs-Mayer fistfight.
