2014 Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick has exciting plans to make his final NASCAR All-Star Race Week special. In an earlier announcement, Harvick revealed his intention to compete in the CARS Tour Late Model Stock Car race in a meticulously prepared #62 Hunt Brothers Racing Ford. And now, with an update about how Harvick and his crew chief enjoyed preparing the vehicle, the NASCAR community, including CARS Tour stakeholder Dale Earnhardt Jr can’t contain their excitement.

Reportedly, Harvick’s car will pay homage to his victorious 1993 Late Model championship that he earned at his hometown track, Mesa Marin Speedway in Bakersfield, California.

Sharing the behind-the-scenes details of how Harvick and Rodney Childers had fun bringing the #62 to life, Stewart Haas Racing posted a video on its official Twitter handle. And hyping Harvick up, Dale Earnhardt Jr reposted the video on Twitter.

Harvick’s involvement in the designing of #62 not only continues his own racing legacy but also honors his late father-in-law, John Paul Linville. In the CARS Tour race, Harvick will pilot the No. 62, a number that his son, Keelan, also competes with in go-karts and Legend Cars across the United States. Linville, an accomplished racer himself, enjoyed a distinguished career spanning over three decades, including participation in what is now known as the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

While Harvick possesses experience in racing Late Models, it has been almost 13 years since his last venture in the category. Reportedly, Harvick’s last Late Model start was in 2010 during the Denny Hamlin Short Track Showdown at Southside Speedway. Apart from his win at Mesa Marin, Harvick secured another victory in 2008 at the Oxford 250.

Harvick initially sparked speculation about a potential return to Late Model racing back in December. He tantalized fans on Twitter by sharing photos from a test session at Caraway Speedway, accompanied by the hashtag #KHIReturn. Shortly after the Caraway test, it was unveiled that Harvick would be joining forces with a new ownership group for the CARS Tour, alongside esteemed individuals such as Dale Earnhardt Jr., Jeff Burton, and Justin Marks.

The forthcoming CARS Tour event on Tuesday, May 17 will mark Harvick’s eagerly anticipated debut at North Wilkesboro Speedway. However, it’s worth noting that Harvick had previously participated in a test session at the track back in 2011.
