Throughout the year NASCAR has had some iconic numbers, be it King Petty’s #43 or Dale Earnhardt’s #3. Only a few numbers in NASCAR history carry the weight and legacy like that of #8. It’s the legacy of Dale Earnhardt Jr, the Bud 8 became synonymous with dominance, and fan loyalty during his early Cup Series days. The car had a vibrant red Budweiser etched into it and also etched into the hearts of fans. It earned its place as one of the sport’s most iconic symbols. Now, as JR Motorsports (JRM) prepares for the upcoming 2025 season, the famous number has found a new torchbearer.
Dale Jr, himself a legendary figure both on and off the track, hinted at the passing of the No. 8 torch in his typical understated but impactful style. With excitement brewing, he gave his seal of approval to a new chapter for JRM and iRacing.

Dale Earnhardt Jr welcomes JRM’s new No. 8 driver
Blake McCandless revealed he will be driving the iconic No. 8 car for JRM in the upcoming eNASCAR iRacing Series, which sets the sim-racing platform for a new face. Taking to Twitter, McCandless shared his enthusiasm for the opportunity, saying, “Proud to announce that I will be driving the iconic #8 for @JRMotorsports in this year’s @ENASCARGG @iRacing Series!”. In addition to representing JRM, McCandless partnered with C4 Energy: “I’m also beyond thrilled to partner with @C4Energy… It’s gonna be hard to miss this ride on-track, and I can’t wait to give them a proper welcome to the world of sim racing/eSports.”
And in true Dale Earnhardt Jr fashion, the NASCAR legend responded on Twitter, offering his support in a nine-worded tweet: “Excited to see what we can do this season.” This endorsement for the young blood showcases the true trust JRM and Dale Jr have placed in McCandless, who has big shoes to fill, following in the footsteps of Mike Conti and Kaden Honeycutt.
The No, 8 isn’t just coming back for the online series. Dale Jr. has much bigger plans for his legacy this year. Having raced with a No.8 already this year, Junior plans to use it for Sammy Smith’s car at JR Motorsports this year. With his step-mother giving up Dale Earnhardt Inc. rights to it this year, it was up for grabs and Junior didn’t miss a beat.
