A few races ago, Kevin Harvick really laid into NASCAR with regard to the Next Gen car. He criticized the ‘crappy a** parts’ which have been endangering drivers on the track. Naturally, the sport’s governing body did not take the criticism lying down and hit back hard. Now, Dale Earnhardt Jr has weighed in on the issue and jumped to Harvick’s defense, criticizing NASCAR.

He said, “I would be absolutely furious if I were them. The thing is, the reason why they can’t be furious is that they can look at these parts that they are putting on these cars. They can see, 100% – Rodney Childers and all these guys – can look at something and go, ‘If I can just- If you give me five minutes, I can fix this thing so it won’t break’. But they can’t touch it, they can’t modify it or infuse any kind of improvement. They buy these parts from a provider, and they are not allowed to alter them.”

Why did Dale Earnhardt Jr respond in such a manner?
NASCAR’s Senior Vice President of Competition Scott Miller insisted that Harvick’s comments were uncalled for. Though he did acknowledge that since the cars are still so new, it has been a bit of a learning process. Nevertheless, the number of mishaps encountered has been highly unacceptable. According to Miller, all of the teams were involved in the process of choosing the parts. So not all of the blame can be pinned on NASCAR.

To be fair to them, the officials have promised to get to the bottom of the problems and sort things out. Hopefully, changes can be made to protect the drivers, especially since many of them have taken hard knocks. Kurt Busch is a prime example of this because he has yet to come back into action after a qualifying wreck at Pocono. So, the likes of Kevin Harvick and Dale Earnhardt Jr have every right to be concerned.
