Suffice to say, Ty Gibbs did himself no favors when he wrecked his own teammate out of a win and a spot in the final four. But as if in an attempt to one-up their own driver, his team, Joe Gibbs Racing, did themselves no favors by taking no action on Gibbs, something Dale Earnhardt Jr simply wouldn’t have done.

Speaking about this incident in the latest episode of his podcast, Junior revealed how he would’ve felt had he been in the shoes of Coach Gibbs.

“I hate to get too critical about it or too descriptive about it because I got three cars racing in the championship race in Phoenix and I don’t wanna sound biased about my opinions about the move…but I’mma tell you right now, if our guys were in that scenario, I would have a massive issue with it,” he said.

“Especially if one of my guys who is already locked in is taking one of his teammates out for an opportunity to race.”

Earnhardt Jr. emphasized that his problem with such an incident in his own team would be so big, that it’d take “some time to resolve” internally.

Dale Earnhardt Jr doesn’t know how Ty Gibbs will dig himself out of the situation he’s in

After doing what he did on track against Brandon Jones, Ty Gibbs took the checkered flag, then did a massive burnout in front of the stands showering him with boos, got out of the car, did some gestures with his hands that infuriated the fans even more, and then showed no remorse for his actions whatsoever.

Because the JR Motorsports owner feels that Ty Gibbs has landed himself in a deep ditch, and climbing out of it could prove pretty tough for him.

“I don’t know where Ty goes from here, I really don’t. I don’t know how he can find some resolution, how he can sway public opinion,” he said. “He did no favors after the race in his reactions or comments.”
