In the buildup to the 2022 NASCAR season, Tony Stewart announced that he would commentate for a couple of races. He made his first appearance at the recently concluded Busch Light Clash at the Los Angeles Coliseum. Suffice to say, his crack at commentating was a huge success. In fact, his former contemporary, Dale Earnhardt Jr, praised him to the high heavens.
Dale Jr said, “I think Tony Stewart is awesome in the booth. He’s seen every single perspective in this sport. He knows how it works and what makes it successful. He’s funny too“. Now, the best part is that Stewart will be back in the booth once again. This is because he is also expected to take over commentary duties at the Daytona 500 later this month.

Ahead of the LA Coliseum race, Stewart expressed his excitement and eagerness to work with Clint Bowyer. He also jokingly commiserated with co-commentator Mike Joy for having the unenviable task of ‘baby-sitting’ them.

Tony Stewart will be eagerly waiting for the Daytona 500
Of course, now that the former Cup Series champion has got the hang of it, he will be keen for more. This time, it will be for a hugely important event, the Daytona 500. This particular race marks the start of the real 2022 NASCAR Cup Series season. So, the former Stewart-Haas Racing driver cannot wait until that race arrives.

Admittedly, there was a bit of a tense moment in the broadcast booth at the Coliseum. This was because NASCAR Vice Chairman Mike Helton stopped by to pay a visit, and the two have had a history. Stewart confessed that he found it hilarious that when Helton showed up, his first thought was whether he did something wrong. This is because, Helton’s job during Stewart’s heyday was to mete out punishment for drivers who stepped out of line.
