Last weekend’s race at Circuit of the Americas had us witness three overtime moments. This had mostly to do with a few turns. The first turn after the main straight saw several drivers funnel up and go five or six wide at times. This also resulted in several drivers hitting each other with nowhere to go.

After the conclusion of the race, Brett Griffin, spotter for Kaulig Racing, had a few words to share about what went down at COTA last weekend. After the end of the race, if someone were to describe the action, they would term it as being chaotic. Furthermore, the conversation about Kyle Busch‘s comment regarding the “lack of respect” was also brought up by Dale Earnhardt Jr‘s former spotter, TJ Majors.

Kaulig Racing insider makes valid points as he slams the COTA race

During the latest episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, Brett Griffin mentioned, “Turn one at Indianapolis road course and turn one at COTA are a complete disaster.

“When you have so much on the line and so little laps left, guys are going to do exactly what they did yesterday. Which is, go for the gusto, and knock the hell out of each other, and knock them out of the way.

“You’re gonna have debris fallin’ off cars, you’re gonna have gas spillin’ out, you’re gonna have cars torn up. And I don’t know that there’s a way to fix it.”

He then elaborated on how it was both fun to watch and not fun at the same time. Griffin’s main complaint was about the number of overtime that had taken place during last weekend’s race. “Three overtimes! Come on man. Like it took an hour,” he exclaimed.

Dale Earnhardt Jr’s former spotter doubles down on Kyle Busch’s lack-of-respect statement after COTA

After Griffin had shared his insights about the chaotic race that transpired at the Circuit of the Americas, his fellow podcaster and former spotter for Dale Earnhardt Jr had a few things to say as well.

Carrying Griffin’s argument ahead, TJ Majors said, “There’s no repercussions. What these guys are saying is pretty much true about the respect thing. Like, it all comes down to the respect thing.”

Furthermore, he mentioned how drivers who would be having a pretty bad day, ending up in the bottom half of the grid, would not care if they ran into somebody. Hence, sharp turns such as turns 1 and 11 at COTA are bound to be a point of attrition during the race.

At the moment, there is no imminent solution for reducing the degree of carnage out there. However, if Kyle Busch’s comment about the lack of respect among drivers these days is considered and repercussions are enforced, it could probably put a brake on such incidents on track.
