“What is left of Julia’s Chevy Blazer. This car saved the lives of my wife, mother, and mother-in-law. Yesterday was a very scary day. Today, I’m just so grateful that they are alive.” Fresh off the Charlotte Roval race on Monday, Daniel Suarez shared the most horrifying crash his family has ever seen. His wife, Julia Piquet, daughter of three-time Formula 1 world champion Nelson Piquet, was involved in an accident in North Carolina. However, with the recent update shared by the 2016 Xfinity champion, the NASCAR world can breathe out a collective sigh.

It all started when Julia Suarez, who was behind the wheel of a Chevrolet Blazer on Highway 73 in Iron Station, North Carolina, took a routine left-hand turn that proved to be terrifying. According to Master Trooper Chris Casey of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol, another vehicle slammed into the Blazer from behind, setting off a chain of chaotic events.
In the wreck, Suarez’s mother, Rosaline Graza, suffered a broken collarbone while his wife, Julia, and mother-in-law, Sylvia Tamsma, endured cuts and bruises, the Mexican driver told NBC Sports. The initial impact sent the Blazer careening into oncoming traffic, where it was sideswiped and shoved into the path of another vehicle, Master Trooper Casey explained.

On Saturday, Daniel Suarez dropped the news about his family’s recovery. He said, “First of all, I want to thank God for keeping them safe. It was a very scary situation. I was in the middle of my competition meeting when I received the call. Luckily, (wife) Julia is good besides a few bruises and a couple of cuts on her head. She’s fine. Her mom has a lot of bruises as well, and a couple of little impacts as well. She’s fine.”
“My mom, from the back seat, got the worse end of it with bruises and cuts on her face and collarbone broken in a few pieces but she already had surgery a couple of days ago and she’s already recovering at home. Being the level of the situation with the accident, we’re pretty lucky that they have to an extent minor injuries.”

The No. 99 driver for Trackhouse Racing has received a lot of support and love from fans and fellow drivers alike since he first divulged this information to the NASCAR world almost a week ago. And now, with recovery underway, Suarez can finally breathe and focus on ending his tenure with Trackhouse Racing with a bang.
Daniel Suarez maintains a top 20 qualifying spot for 2 straight weeks
As Trackhouse’s SVG took the checkered flag last Sunday and Ross Chastain waved goodbye to his playoff hopes, Suarez faced different issues at the road course. Last weekend, Suarez showed some speed by qualifying 20th but ultimately ended his race in 7th; however, Las Vegas is a different beast altogether.
In Las Vegas, Denny Hamlin may have taken up the top spot, but Daniel Suarez posted a lap of 182.156 mph that places him 17th, just three spots behind playoff contender Ryan Blaney.

Daniel Suarez’s best finish at LVMS came in March when he secured a second-place finish in the NASCAR Cup Series Pennzoil 400. Driving the No. 99 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet, the Mexican was in contention for the win but was overtaken by Josh Berry with 16 laps remaining.
This performance marked a significant achievement for Daniel, as it was his first top-five finish at Las Vegas and his best result at the track to date. In his career, he has participated in 16 races at Las Vegas, earning four top 10 finishes and two top five finishes over 16 starts. It is safe to say that Suarez is now motivated to give his best shot in the last 3 races remaining with his team.
