RFK Racing is putting all its cards on the table for 2025. They made some bold moves this offseason with the addition of Ryan Preece and a third charter, as well as roping in Kroger as a primary sponsor. In an era where NASCAR charters are increasingly debated because of the ongoing lawsuit, RFK seems to be hedging its bets on winning right now. Heading into 2025, they have added another powerhouse media professional whose accolades are to die for.

The team, co-owned by Brad Keselowski recently announced that veteran journalist Mike Massaro will join their Marketing and Communications team. The broadcast journalist and media professional has over two decades of experience, having previously worked with networks such as ESPN, NBC Sports, and ABC Sports. However, being a part of a NASCAR team will be a brand-new adventure for Massaro, who will be joining in as the new senior director of communications to oversee marketing and PR.

Massaro, who has a cabinet full of awards in his career so far, will be hoping to make good use of his skills in the NASCAR team. The journalist expressed his excitement ahead of his new career move and gave credit for where it’s due in a heartfelt tweet.

Brad Keselowski’s team welcomes Massaro with open arms

RFK Racing has shown plenty of ambition in recent months. The Concord-based outfit leased a charter from Rick Ware Racing, a team with which they currently have a technical alliance since 2023. The expansion plan was sponsored by multi-billion dollar retail giant Kroger, who has joined in as a sponsor after parting ways with JTG Daughtery Racing while watching previous sponsors King’s Hawaiian move to their rival Toyota team.

Signing Mike Massaro seems to be another step in the right direction for the team, who are looking to be a formidable force in the NASCAR world. A tweet uploaded by RFK Racing announced the appointment, saying, “Award-Winning Sports Journalist @MikeMassaroTV Joins RFK Racing’s Marketing and Communications Team.” In response, the veteran journalist couldn’t help but say that he was “Grateful” to have been given the opportunity and was “excited to work with @keselowski @Chris_Buescher and @RyanPreece.”

Massaro is no stranger to accolades. The seasoned communications professional has received several industry awards over the years, while his role in the ‘NASCAR NOW’ team with ESPN earned him a 2012 Sports Emmy nomination. He was also featured in programs such as ‘SportsCenter’ and ‘Outside the Lines’, highlighting just how highly he was viewed by the Network’s hierarchy.

RFK Racing’s hierarchy shares thoughts on Massaro’s appointment

It may not be the most glamorous appointment, but Mike Massaro joining RFK Racing is a significant statement of intent by Brad Keselowski’s RFK Racing. The team doesn’t lack ambition and hiring the veteran journalist indicates that they are willing to do what it takes to become a part of NASCAR’s elite. While significant strides have already been made to improve on-track results, getting an experienced communications professional highlights a holistic outlook from the team’s hierarchy, with priority also being given to improving their media presence.

Sharing his thoughts about the appointment, Steve Newmark, President of RFK Racing said, “We are excited to welcome Mike Massaro to our team. Mike’s deep understanding of not only our sport, but the landscape of sports media, combined with his extensive media and communications background, make him an ideal fit with our team and our continued marketing efforts.” The team, which will be participating in its 38th season this year is aiming to become a force to be reckoned with, both on and off the track.

Newmark’s sentiments were echoed by Massaro as well, who went on to say, “The opportunity to align my passion for motorsports with my professional expertise in communications is truly exciting.” Expectations will be high from Brad Keselowski’s team going into the 2025 season with significant changes being made to RFK Racing. With a big sponsor, a third driver, and experienced professionals behind the scenes, there is no reason why the team cannot challenge NASCAR’s heavyweights in the Cup Series this year.
