Denny Hamlin is truly one of the best NASCAR drivers in the modern era, and arguably, one of the all-time greats in the history of the sport. While the Joe Gibbs Racing driver hasn’t won a Cup Series championship yet, he’s almost won every major race so far.

Except for one. The one that Chase Briscoe cost him last year, the Brickyard 400.

And it seems Hamlin hasn’t forgotten what happened to him at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway last year, something he showed through a sarcastic wink to a tweet about the very incident.

“I really gotta stop backing into these guys front bumpers,” he tweeted.

Amid the whole drama, which unfolded, a NASCAR spotter shared his thoughts on the same.

The race Chase Briscoe cost Denny Hamlin was on his bucket list

In an episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast, NASCAR spotter, Brett Griffin, revealed how the Brickyard 400 was on Denny Hamlin’s bucket list. But beyond that, it was also a race that’s considered a crown jewel, something Hamlin has missed out on considering his first win at Coca-Cola 600 recently.

If you look at the Brickyard, and you say Brickyard is still a crown jewel race, who was gonna win it last year? Chase Briscoe punted him over the last lap,” Griffin said.

“Chase said, ‘See ya later.’”

Griffin described how the Brickyard oval was a ‘must-win’ race for Denny Hamlin. “I’ve talked to him about it. And for him not to have won it before they shifted it to the road course, I think it’s gonna haunt him personally,” he added.

“He’s one of those bucket list guys.”
