There has been a lot of hype surrounding African-American star, Bubba Wallace. It grew even further when Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan recruited him to race for their new team in 2021. Admittedly, some would question the decision, since Jordan has insisted that his team is here to win.

The doubts have cropped up because Wallace has yet to reach victory lane. However, Hamlin has placed a lot of faith in the 27-year-old. He cited the example of Brad Keselowski, especially when he raced in his parents’ equipment. Hamlin insists that the results don’t tell the full story.

Instead, the #11 driver is of the opinion that if Wallace has the right equipment, he will definitely deliver. He said, “That’s kinda what I see with Bubba. I know what his cars are capable of in my mind, and I see his ability and what he is able to get out of it. I see that if he has a faster car, he probably would be much much higher and much better and contend. He’s contended quite a few times this year for race wins. So that is what I saw personally.”

2021 marks a new dawn for Bubba Wallace

The team, christened 23XI Racing, will field one Toyota Camry with Bubba Wallace behind the wheel. As mentioned before, Denny Hamlin and Michael Jordan know that the current Richard Petty Motorsports driver can win races.

His best career finish was a second place at the 2018 Daytona 500, and he has had a handful of top 10 finishes. Aside from that, his consistency and skill are what truly caught Hamlin and Jordan’s eye. This is why they believe that when they have a good car, a driver of Wallace’s caliber can deliver them wins.
