Denny Hamlin reveals how he helped major sponsors with their goal
After the thrilling last-lap win in Kansas, Hamlin appeared in the Actions Detrimental podcast. During his conversation with co-host Jared Allen, Hamlin mentioned the interaction with FedEx employees, saying, “So FedEx is kind of working in a way to make one FedEx. Versus these different entities have FedEx Ground, Express, whatever. So they’re going to consolidate over the next year into one FedEx.
“And so just talking about how that works and how leadership works, how to get the best out of your employees. Me and Joe went up there and did a Q&A on that.

“I talked about my race team. I’ve talked about Joe and how his leadership works. And you know, what motivates us. That’s really cool to be able to do that because you know, when FedEx trusts you to talk to their employees and get them all rallied behind an idea.
“We really can correlate a lot into racing and what we do into what they’re doing with their company. So that was awesome.”

Though the interaction might have had positive outcomes for everyone involved, the same cannot be said about Hamlin and JGR’s future with FedEx.

The long-standing partnership between FedEx and Joe Gibbs Racing is set to expire at the end of the 2023 season, with no clear indication of renewal. This precarious situation is exacerbated by a global economic downturn and recessions in various regions.

The company had already hinted at the possibility of trouble ahead last year. In September, the company experienced a sharp decline in sales. The shipping giant had anticipated falling short of its revenue target by $500 million due to the challenging market conditions.

Moreover, it is also important to consider that Kyle Busch joined RCR after losing his primary sponsor with JGR. Furthermore, with FedEx potentially departing as well, it wouldn’t be unrealistic to envision Denny Hamlin facing a similar situation.
