Denny Hamlin, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver and the co-owner of the 23XI Racing team, recently interacted with the troops of the U.S. Armed Forces. As a prelude to the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, Mission 600 is a program designed to honor the brave men and women of the U.S. Armed Forces.

This is done by teaming up NASCAR drivers with military bases with the idea of teaching the racecar drivers about the day-to-day lives of the armed forces.

After being given a tour of Camp Buehring’s base in Kuwait over Zoom, Hamlin and SSG Thomas Moore exchanged their thoughts on the commonalities between NASCAR and the army.

Moore described “being on the battlefield”, and being coordinated with the medical and retrieval crews is just like doing the same with a pit crew.

While the Richmond race winner tried bringing the parallels between the temperature inside the Next Gen racecar and a tank. “What the normal person would not be able to do inside of our cars, deal with the heat,” he said.

“Maybe you guys, because it does not look cool inside those tanks. But you know, it’s 130 to 140 (degrees) in the car usually. And we’re in there for four hours and there’s not AC blowing or anything like that.”

“Over a 1 min explanation. Ppl in the sport don’t even know. What’s wrong with this picture. As a fan sitting on my ass right now watching, it’s hard to take this seriously,” Hamlin replied.
