Earlier at the Kansas Speedway, John Hunter Nemechek booked his seat in the next round of the Playoffs. Since this was the last race before the round of 8, everyone had to pull out all the stops. When the race ended though, it was game over for Matt Crafton and Carson Hocevar. It seems that Hocevar failed to make the cut, despite finishing in 2nd place, and Fox Sports did not know why, so Denny Hamlin called them out for it.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver was not the only one who commented about this. Plenty of fans poked fun at Fox Sports for their gaffe. Hamlin observed that they missed the fact that Christian Eckes made up a bunch of spots, right under their noses.

For Hocevar to qualify, he needed to finish a certain number of spot ahead of Eckes. Though it is worth mentioning that Hamlin did not blame the commentators.
How did NASCAR fans agree with Denny Hamlin?
Many people joked that Fox Sports simply needed to consult prominent journalist Bob Pockrass. This was because Pockrass tweeted that with two laps left, Eckes was 12th, so Hocevar needed to win. Others cut the media organization some slack because there were reports that the scoring board had frozen for a bit.
Next time they just need to ask @bobpockrass https://t.co/c3WkDYNk6w

Point is he doesn’t need to but good broadcasts have an intern or producer or someone behind the scenes doing that exact scenario. Not that hard Alan Kulwicki did it while driving To win a championship.

Some asked Hamlin in a sarcastic manner whether he knows the Playoff scenario for all Cup drivers. However, others defended him, saying that he does not need to, but good broadcasters can do it. They also observed that the late Alan Kulwicki calculated the odds while he was competing for a championship.
One of a million reasons why I hope they won't be covering nascar in 2025

Meanwhile, many others declared that Fox Sports should not cover NASCAR from 2025 onwards if this was going to happen. On the other hand, fans have praise to journalist Bob Pockrass and the Cup commentary booth for their knowledge.
