Wrecks and crashes are a common outcome in NASCAR due to the on-track tussles between drivers. Ryan Preece’s Daytona crash is still fresh in the memories. It is a reminder of how quickly things can go downhill in this sport. The Netflix docuseries Full Speed recently dropped their full-length trailer which featured the freak accident. It was the last chance qualification race at Daytona ahead of the playoffs, thus tensions were flaring high on the track. Denny Hamlin, who was in the thick of things, decided to bail out from the on-track battle as he sensed something bad was about to happen. And then it did.

When only Denny Hamlin knew something dangerous was going to go down
The much anticipated NASCAR Netflix series will be released on the 30th of January. However, the full-length trailer released by the streaming giant has got the community more hyped for the series. The series is expected to be a gripping tale and raw unfiltered behind-the-scenes action from the 2023 NASCAR Cup Series Playoffs and therefore the crucial Daytona race was used as the backdrop in the trailer.
Starting the trailer, the narration from the video reads, “The playoffs berths are on the line.” With final laps to go at the race and every driver going aggressive on their plays, Hamlin saw a mishap before it happened and decided to give out on the tussle with his competitors. The narration from the trailer video, termed this move by JGR’s No.11 as ‘Spidey-Sense’ and it was his saving grace. The 43-year-old was certainly impressed by how his decision-making skills were termed in the trailer, he even replied to acknowledge, “Spidey-senses ✅”
Just as Hamlin bailed out, a freak incident soon followed which saw Ryan Preece launched up in the air doing flips. Luckily, Preece was able to stand on his feet after the incident in what could have been a catastrophic end to the constant back and forth between the drivers. Chris Buescher was the winner of the race which handed Bubba Wallace the playoffs berth, while Chase Elliot for the first time in his career was unable to make it to the last-16.

The Joe Gibbs Racing driver is not yet 100% from his shoulder surgery
Denny Hamlin had another impressive NASCAR Cup Series season in 2023. With three wins and consistent showings he managed to claim fifth place in the championship points standings. However, he would have been in a better shape to mount a title challenge if it wasn’t for his niggling shoulder injury which ultimately had to be treated with surgery after the season.

Providing an update about his recovery post-surgery, Hamlin in an interview with NBC Sports said, “It’s something that you can’t shortcut. The recovery is what it is. I knew that I was in for three months (recovery) when I got out (of surgery) and there’s just no way to shortcut it. Am I going to be 100 percent (at the start of the season)? No, that’s not until probably March or April that I’ll be 100 percent. But I certainly will be better to start this year than I ended last year.”
