There are very, very few drivers in NASCAR today from whom fans can expect brutal honesty whether it’s for a good cause or a bad decision. Denny Hamlin is certainly one of those handful of names who don’t shy away from celebrating the wins of the sport wholeheartedly or calling out the atrocities or major issues in it.

This was something he proved recently with a pretty honest and extensive rant against the trophies in NASCAR after the trophy from the All-Star race were revealed. In fact, the veteran not only mocked the trophies that are to be given at the North Wilkesboro Speedway, a $116 million restoration project, but he also called out the one from Martinsville.

Denny Hamlin calls out the trophies for the All-Star race along with his ‘kill shot’

Reacting to the tweet by journalist Bob Pockrass in which he revealed the trophy from the All-Star race, Hamlin began his rant by admitting he’s aware he’s “about to be dragged” with an incoming “totally unpopular opinion.”

“Is this a trophy or a piece of art? Does it say winner anywhere on it? Date? I love cool unique trophies but feel like they should look like trophies,” the veteran wrote.

He then proceeded to his “kill shot” –  “Martinsville clock isn’t that prestigious to me.”

“Why? You can buy one from the store right down the road,” Hamlin reasoned. “Only 2 of my clocks actually have any writing on them saying signifying they were “won”. It’s just a clock that families of means owned about 40 years ago.”

Hamlin’s rant against the All-Star trophy resonates with everyone

After his long rant against the All-Star trophy, Denny Hamlin added that despite his “unpopular opinion” on the trophy, if he wins, he’ll be “drinking out of it.” Now, that is a matter of the future. As for the present, the thing Hamlin concluded his rant with, that everyone should “feel free” to drag him in the comments for his take, that did happen.

But clearly, the fans agreed with Hamlin. At least most of them did as they too expressed their dislike over the All-Star trophy, the Martinsville trophy, and yes, even the lobster trophy.

“I received a clock like the Martinsville clock as a wedding gift from a grandparent. That clock has stared at me for almost 18 years. What am I supposed to do with it? So I agree with you about the clock.”

“Nah, you’re actually so right for this.”

“Not a grandfather clock guy. About time for a few legacy trophies, Petty, Earnhardt and Johnson.”

With that said, are you a fan of the All-Star trophy? If so, do you think Hamlin is wrong? And if you aren’t a fan, do you think NASCAR needs to replace it?
