The NASCAR Cup Series, last week, returned to the much-awaited North Wilkesboro Speedway. The veteran Dale Earnhardt Jr was one who greatly contributed to bringing the race track back to life. The revving of the cars from the All-Star race at one of the historic tracks had left everyone excited. And it seems the most excited was Denny Hamlin who had a great suggestion for NASCAR for moving the Clash of the Coliseum race to the same venue.

Surprised? Well, that’s Denny Hamlin! He has always been known for his in-the spur-of-the-moment thoughts and actions. While here, he rather made a bold suggestion stating a few harsh reasons for saying so.

In the latest episode of his podcast ‘Actions Detrimental,’ the JGR driver got into a conversation with Jared Allen, his so-host. Both spoke at length about NASCAR’s return to North Wilkesboro Speedway and what it looks like for them in the future. During their discussion, Hamlin shared the conversation he had with his producer, Travis. He suggested having The Clash race at North Wilkesboro and Hamlin loved the idea.

And one of the reasons he stated for it was, “because the travel to the Coliseum is such it’s a financial nightmare for the race team.” Allan immediately asked him if he meant travel for the first race of the year or to the Coliseum, in general.

The 23XI Racing co-owner affirming it for the first race of the year stated, “It’s such a tough thing for us. Well, the Clash in general just doesn’t make financial sense for the race. And that’s just a fact. It just didn’t make sense before, but then now that we have to go to the West Coast it definitely doesn’t make sense. And then not only that, on the financial side, personnel side it really hurts our race teams.”

“For two weeks, it is a tough travel back and forth and then you gotta go to Daytona. It’s just really a strain on our guys, to be honest with you.” But that’s not all. A big hurdle follows if the officials decide to host the race at North Wilkesboro.

Hamlin shared that both he and Travis got excited about the idea and how it could be better. But then they realized some things were unavoidable. Hamlin said, “I’m like, that’s a fantastic idea. And then you forget that it’s February 2 or whatever. And I was like oh, hey, Twas unavoidableravis it’s gonna be thirty-five degrees. So bundle up, if we’re gonna do that, but yeah, I don’t think you can do it because of the weather. It would be too cold.”

Hamlin also shared that as “that spurs the imagination” they could also have the Clash at any other short race track in Georgia or Florida. On the flip side, he soon realized that in terms of business, it wouldn’t prove as good as it does in LA. He said, “Every year you keep doing it, it is going to lose its luster a little bit which we did. We saw, you know, a definite jump from year one to two. My guess is your two-three naturally, you’re just going to have a little less excitement around it for sure. So I’m in favor of moving things around.”
