While the community craves drama and the excitement the race brings to the track, NASCAR races over the years have delivered their promise with some awkward situations on the sides as well. The very recent Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway saw something rather alarming and a NASCAR journalist was the one to point out the grave flaw as he tweeted out the anomaly.
Soon Denny Hamlin‘s crew chief also revealed his take on the matter as he sided with the senior reporter to highlight the major fault from NASCAR on the pit road. The Joe Gibbs Racing team member showed how the condition was “critical” while fans joined the discussion, expressing their thoughts on the safety lapse.

Denny Hamlin’s Crew Chief Joins the Community as They Point Out NASCAR’s Major Flaw at Sonoma Raceway
Being a road course, the Cup Series race at Sonoma Raceway had its twists and turns, literally and figuratively. While his JGR teammate, Denny Hamlin, started out strong in stage 1 but faded towards the end, Martin Truex Jr was a man on a mission as he passed one car after another to bring home his second victory of the season.
While it was more of a feast or famine situation for Toyota (with Truex Jr taking the chequered flag and Hamlin fading down the pack in 36), the community witnessed an awkward situation in the pit road as Jeff Gluck tweeted out the bizarre scene.
Somebody probably could have gone out to get this, but it’s a caution. And don’t think many will complain. pic.twitter.com/huZd8pjNYh

The absence of stage cautions meant trouble as NASCAR’s flaw spilled confusion on the track. A loose tire was seen in the middle of the pit-road with crew members paying no attention to the part just because it was caution. The serious lapse in safety received a stiff response from the community as, Hamlin’s teammate Chris Gabehart wrote down his thoughts publically.
Within just hours after the post went online, fans rushed to the scene as they expressed their displeasure with the organization for such a major fault.

As there was a loose tire in the middle of the pit road during the caution, if a speeding car had entered the pit lane, could would have surely caused a disaster. That’s how dire the situation was. While the road course meant a limited number of cautions, the race had no stage cautions, making things more critical for teams.
JGR #11 crew chief, Chris Gabehart, sided with the Gluck as he mentioned NASCAR’s lapse. Chris wrote, “With how critical cautions are in road course races, especially in the middle of a pit cycle, and WITH a pit wall shielding the track from all of pit road…. I agree.”

While fans displayed their emotions, commenting and retweeting the post. One fan wrote about the pathetic condition,
“Nobody gonna go out there and claim that.”
Whereas another fan gave his suggestion, “Should just close pit road; no need for a caution on-track.”
“Anything could happen. You don’t want a body out on a green flag pit road.”

While another fan revealed his displeasure with NASCAR’s inconsistent ways,
“I would, because NASCAR should not be deciding whether a caution is required based on how “entertaining” the race is.”
“No need for a caution. Just close pit road for a lap so somebody can go get it. NASCAR just wanted a caution to try to create some drama/excitement (a.k.a. a restart)”

As a fan, do you think these gaffes can’t be really blamed on NASCAR, as there is only so much control they can exercise? Or was it a slip-up from them that now requires a proper explanation?
