The racing community, revving up for the 2023 postseason climax, was hit with a series of shocking revelations. The Bristol dirt race’s abrupt departure after just 3 years, a surprise return of the Indianapolis Oval for its 30th anniversary, and the sacrifice of some legendary tracks have sent waves of discontent among fans. One of the most significant upsets? The possibility of replacing the iconic Fontana track with Iowa in the Cup Series 2024.

Just when the discontent seemed to overshadow the love for the sport, NASCAR pulled a rabbit out of their hat with their poignant video—a montage that took fans down memory lane, offering solace and a reminder of the shared memories and love for the race.

The track swap controversy

Renowned NASCAR journalist Bob Pockrass further stirred the pot with the prospect of “Texas likely moving to spring.” This opened the door to potentially two new playoff venues, fundamentally changing what fans have grown to love and expect. And it’s not just the postseason that’s getting a makeover. A shift from the Daytona Superspeedway as the regular-season finale, due to the Olympics and other constraints, could lead to Darlington taking its coveted spot.

“Iowa governor has called news conference for Tuesday morning for “new major sports” event in 2024. With possible Montreal race appearing doubtful, expecting Iowa as replacement for Fontana (race would be in summer month). … Believe Wednesday is target to release 2024 schedules,” Pockrass wrote on Twitter.

Hopes were high for Montreal’s inclusion; alas, they faded. Iowa Speedway, with a 4-year hiatus from hosting any national series race, is now potentially at the forefront. Yet, amidst these whirlwinds of changes, a looming concern over the Next Gen car’s performance on short tracks remains.

Growing up, the roars of engines and the thrill of speed were just as enthralling to me as the serene calmness and challenge of mountains. Just as Chase Elliott weaves his way through the asphalt tracks, I've found my way through some of the most challenging trekking trails, with each step taken in sync with my heartbeats resonating with the excitement of a racecar on the track. It's no wonder why I am a die-hard fan of both Chase Elliott and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Their tenacity, dedication, and sheer brilliance on the track mirror the elements I love about trekking - the dedication to push further, the challenge of the unknown, and the thrill of reaching new heights. I've climbed peaks and witnessed breathtaking vistas, and at the same time, I've written articles that garnered admiration from fellow racing enthusiasts. Whether you want to talk about Trekking or NASCAR, do reach out.
