The year just seems to get more and more difficult for Kyle Busch. With an uncertain future with Joe Gibbs Racing and a lack of sponsorship, the NASCAR driver’s 2022 season is already under a lot of pressure. And his engine blowing up at the Darlington race definitely didn’t help his morale.

However, NASCAR champion Dale Earnhardt Jr might have some insider information on Busch’s bright future in 2023.

Recently, Earnhardt Jr. sent the entire NASCAR community into a flurry of speculations with his tweet. Until now, fans and the media speculated Busch to be signed by Kaulig Racing, 23XI Racing, or Richard Childress Racing (RCR). Although the last one was a bit unexpected, owing to the past relationship between Busch and Childress.

However, Dale Earnhardt Jr’s tweet hinted toward a surprising future for Busch. In the tweet, Earnhardt Jr posted an emoticon of a tree (interpreted as a bush by most), followed by a finger directed towards a ball with the number 8 on it. The series of emojis indicated that maybe Busch would drive the #8 in 2023.

Currently, the #8 is the ride of Richard Childress Racing’s Tyler Reddick. It is conjectured that Kyle Busch will replace Reddick at RCR. Surprised and excited by the news, the NASCAR community left a series of comments below Earnhardt Jr’s tweet. Most of the comments indicated that this might be the biggest silly season news in years.

Reddick has already expressed his desire to leave RCR at the end of 2023. And that’s why this speculation does not seem very far-fetched.

However, it would be interesting to see Busch driving for RCR. More than a decade ago, Richard Childress and Kyle Busch were involved in a physical brawl.

What happened between Richard Childress and Kyle Busch?

In May 2011, at Camping World Truck Series at Kansas, Kyle Busch trapped RCR’s Joey Coulter’s truck in the cool-down lap expressing how he didn’t like the antics used by the latter to win the race. Apparently, this did not sit well with Childress, and he decided to confront Busch in the garage area.

And as per reports, Richard Childress put Kyle Busch in a headlock and punched him multiple times until he fell down. Childress was penalized by NASCAR for his actions. He paid a $150,000 fine and was on probation for the rest of 2011. However, he refused to apologize for his actions.

But in an interview in August 2022, Childress made some vague remarks while addressing the probability of Busch joining RCR. He said, “Kyle’s a great race driver. And I have talked… we put all our differences behind us a while back. And he is a great race driver and he’ll land him a good ride somewhere for sure.”

Further, he smiled and added, “You said that I didn’t.”
