“Drive More Like My Teammates…” – Alex Bowman Has Eyes on His Hendrick Motorsports Teammates as He Hunts for a Back-to-Back in Home Race

After taking the checkered flag in Sin City, Alex Bowman is hoping to repeat the result this weekend. NASCAR is swapping the desert of Las Vegas for the desert of Phoenix, and Bowman is aiming to swap his luck in his home race.

The No.48 driver finished in sixth place in 2016 as he replaced an injured Dale Earnhardt Jr. But since then, Bowman has failed to crack the Top 10s even once.

However, this time around, along with riding on the wave of beating his teammate and defending champion Kyle Larson last weekend, Bowman is also open to taking some pages, some inspiration from his teammates’ success, their style of driving.

“Drive more like my teammates, which isn’t something I enjoy doing or am good at doing,” Bowman said.

“But, I think with this race car, I kind of have to go more their direction. I can’t be as loose as I want to be. Trying to make the right decisions to get us where we need to be when we unload there because, obviously, we don’t have much time after we unload and practice to get it right.”

Alex Bowman admitted that all four Hendrick cars differ from each other on a week-to-week basis. “We’re definitely all different,” Bowman said.

He described every race car driver as different. That one can try to drive like somebody else, but they can never shake off those differences because two drivers will always look for and feel different things.

That being said, Bowman admitted all four teams work “really closely.” “Some weeks we go to the race track and the four cars are similar, some weeks they’re not,” he said.

“I just try to use their information to learn as much as I can.”
