It was just last Sunday when we saw an eventful race in Talladega come to an end. While Kyle Busch enjoyed what was probably a lucky victory, the horrific crash involving Kyle Larson cannot be ignored. In a sequence of unfortunate events, Larson and Ryan Preece were involved in a violent crash. Surprisingly, the Hendrick Motorsports and Stewart-Haas Racing driver survived it without any major injuries. However, Busch’s latest nemesis feels NASCAR fans don’t quite understand the gravity of the incident.

Historically, the Talladega Superspeedway has been more than familiar with crashes. In fact, one of the most gut-wrenching mayhem took place in Alabama in 1973 during the Winston 500. Then, the 2015 NASCAR Hall of Famer Wendell Scott suffered a horrible injury as he broke his pelvis along with multiple ribs. While Larson’s crash was intense, he was lucky to escape any such serious injury.

Before the eventful Talladega, a lot happened at the Martinsville Speedway. One of the highlights from Virginia was the tussle between Corey LaJoie and Kyle Busch. Both drivers were at each other’s throats, although not literally but intensely enough to annoy one another. In fact, it only got worse after the race, as they have been involved in a war of words.

Rowdy, being the outspoken and unfiltered personality he is, claimed LaJoie to be a “pain in the d**k”. Surprisingly, even Spire Motorsports argued and admitted on SiriusXM NASCAR Radio to intentionally contacting the Richard Childress Racing driver. While no punishment was given to the #7 driver, it has surely divided opinions among the NASCAR community.

However, fans may not like what LaJoie said recently. As he appeared on the “Stacking Pennies” podcast, the 31-year-old spoke about the Kyle Larson crash on Sunday. Apparently, he seems to be unhappy with how the incident is being treated. He said, “The #5 takes a big shot at the door. The #41 stops him and everybody I saw was up in arms about the in-car camera.

“Newsflash guys, when you are driving a race car at 185 miles per hour, it hurts when you crash, it hurts if you got a fender bender at 25 miles an hour. So I think if there’s an element that people forget or take it for granted that this stuff is dangerous.” In reality, it did look nasty.

The hit destroyed Preece’s front end and left the right-side door of the #5 car torn open. Fortunately, both drivers were lucky to come out of it unscathed. In fact, this incident earned them a lot of praise from a NASCAR veteran.

From a neutral’s perspective, it was quite worrying to witness the crash at Talladega. The fact that both drivers came out fine brought a lot of relief and certainly plaudits from none other than Brett Griffin.

The Kaulig Racing spotter spoke positively about both Larson and Preece in the latest episode of the Door Bumper Clear podcast. He said, “Kyle Larson and Ryan Preece and all them guys yesterday, they were in a wreck that was not of their making, they were in a massive wreck pulling tons of G’s, whiplash. I mean the replay I saw, Preece could have easily broken his wrist in that crash.
