Is Denny Hamlin back to his very best since the start of the 2024 season? Now for NASCAR drivers, the important metric to measure their success is wins, and so far, Hamlin has already secured two wins in nine races. Still waiting to win a championship, the JGR driver perhaps has only a handful of seasons to conquer his final peak. And by the looks of it, 2024 just might turn out to be his crowing moment.

Clinching wins and consistent top finishes is a daunting task, especially in the Next Gen era. Therefore, it becomes all the more special for a team and driver to have cracked the formula. Even if a good chunk of the NASCAR community might not appreciate Hamlin’s positive run, he is confident in his approach and eyeing more wins this season.

The veteran driver has led a total of 395 laps combined in all nine events so far. Interestingly, he is the only one to have led the field in all the races. Ahead of the Talladega race, Hamlin, in an interview, spoke highly of his performances this season. He also revealed the trade secret that allows him to contend for the win every weekend.

Well, we’ve been one of the fastest each and every week. I mean, they weren’t accident laps that happened out of caution or something like that. Like, we’ve legitimately led races and so it’s fun. Even though last week was a tough ending, you know, me and Chris talking about. It’s just such a fun time to go to the racetrack. Because every seven days we can win and be one of the favorites to win.,” the driver said.

During the 2018–19 season, Hamlin was perhaps on his best run in his career. In those two seasons, he consecutively bagged six Cup wins, and he is aiming for something similar on the back of his solid start in 2024. “So it is fun, it’s a fun time in my career right now, especially with the way things are going and when I’ve got huge win numbers that I’m trying to get to in a season when you’re running the way you are. You know you’ve got more opportunities.”

Although the #11 JGR Toyota has been a force to be reckoned with this season, their dominant runs haven’t followed through in the Superspeedway races.

The Toyota Camp has good superspeedway race car drivers like Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace. However, for some reason, they haven’t been successful in securing wins and impressive performances since the start of the Next Gen era. In Hamlin’s case, his P3 finish last season as Talladega was the closest he came to registering a win driving the Toyota Camry. But what’s the reason behind their inability to run well at these venues?

Explaining the reason behind the lack of wins at Superspeedways, Hamlin said, “I wouldn’t say we put a ton of effort into it honestly. We want to run well here, it pays the same amount of points that any other racetrack does. But, a lot of it is just so circumstantial to the air that you’ve got and the line that you’re in. It’s certainly not an off week for the team but they probably shift a little bit of their mind and focus to the next true oval that we’ve got on the schedule.”

However, given the string of good performances and a disappointing finish last weekend at Texas, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Hamlin pushing for yet another win today.
