“Everybody Was Mental”: Tony Stewart Unearths the Mindset Behind Wanting to Sell His $30 Million Priced Possession, That Made Dale Earnhardt Jr Unhappy

This week’s Dale Jr Download was interesting for reasons more than one. With NASCAR veteran and NHRA national champion, Tony Stewart joining Dale Earnhardt Jr and his manager Mike Davis on the studio floor, the atmosphere was electric.

With the three-time NASCAR Cup Series champion coming down to the studio, Dale Jr seemingly had a rather unhappy confession to make.

The JR Motorsports owner does just that. Instead of shying away, Dale Jr shot his curious question while Stewart and his manager, Davis chuckled along.

Dale Earnhardt Jr shoots the question despite his unhappiness over it

Above all, Tony ‘Smoke’ Stewart is the kind of man to go searching for his passion. After conquering considerably in NASCAR and Indycar scenes, the 51-year-old is now eyeing the NHRA drag scene. Nevertheless, a curious Dale Jr asked about Stewart’s priced possession, his property in Columbus, Indiana.

Expressing how sad he was, Dale Jr says, I’ve been watching you for years (…) You got this incredible house and massive helmet collection and your own old Indycar hanging on the wall, and you were gonna sell it. And I thought, ‘Wow! Why would you he do that?’ I got a little sad honestly.”

Stewart gave a practical and realistic two-part answer, mentioning his and his wife’s passion. As he cited, the first reason was the financial aspect of it, saying people were buying land and that his property could fetch some bills. But it’s simple though. This is why we did it. Everybody was mental, like that time, I mean if you had an acre of land that had rocks on it, people buying it ’cause they were just buying land.” 

Further, the Stewart-Haas Racing co-owner disclosed the second reason, And the other reason was Leah and I like to surf a lot, wake surf. Well, for us to go wake surf where we live, hour and 15 minutes by the time you get the boat ready, get to the water, get it in water. And then it’s an hour and a half going back. You gotta take all time to clear it, dry it out. So, I thought, ‘Well, we’ll look at it.’”

Soon after Stewart finishes with his explanation, Dale Jr had another intriguing question. He asked, “When you and her talk about where y’all want to put roofs like, what do y’all have those conversations? And what is the conversation like?”

To which, a smart-witted Stewart has the perfect answer. He responded, “It’s like a tug of war match with 2 evenly matched teams. It just keeps coming back and forth.” Further, Stewart describes his new town, Lake Havasu in Arizona, “I mean, I like Lake Havasu. Lake Havasu is fun.”

The 51-year-old veteran mentioned the car culture of the town amidst the fun and thrilling activities. His current location has both desserts and lake fronts within a couple of kilometers apart. The racing scene is pretty much intact with the likes of Wayne Rainey, legendary Moto GP rider, living in town along with other popular racers.
