After finishing second in the NASCAR Truck Series with GMS Racing, Grant Enfinger decided to make the jump back to CR7 Motorsports. A lot of people may wonder the reason for this move, considering that he finished P2 in the 2023 Truck Series. In an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports, the 38-year-old explained the reason behind his decision.

Grant Enfinger is a motorsports veteran, and his years of experience are reflected well in his race craft. He might have missed out on winning the title in 2023, but the P2 finish was his career-best in the competition so far. The ultimate goal, of course, for the former GMS Racing man will be to win the Truck Series championship, and it would make for a beautiful story if he won it with his close friend’s team.

How did CR7 Motorsports give Grant Enfinger that ‘Aha!’ moment?

Well, it turns out that it was all about a change of mentality from CR7 Motorsports and team owner Codie Rohrbaugh’s side. Grant Enfinger and Rohrbaugh have been good friends for a while now. The veteran racer revealed that one of his main motivations for moving to CR7 was the fact that the team was willing to shift its direction to get in line with the former GMS Racing star’s vision.

“They are a long way from it (competing for wins consistently) right now, but I feel like I had a good idea of what it was gonna take from a support standpoint, and a commitment standpoint, and a financial standpoint, and a people standpoint to do this and do this successfully, and when he came back to me and he said, “Okay. I agree with you; tell me how we do it,” Enfinger said in an exclusive interview with EssentiallySports.

“He’s willing to change directions if need be to get the support we need; that was an ‘aha!’ moment for me, and that let me know that hey, he’s not just committed to me as a friend and a brother; he’s committed to running this team right, and at that point, I was all in,” the Truck Series veteran added.

Well, it turns out that building a foundation is the name of the game, as per Grant Enfinger. While he believes that CR7 Motorsports has the right pieces to challenge for wins right from the get-go, some things need to be done that will help the team consistently challenge for race wins and eventually become a Truck Series title contender.

“I truly feel like we have all the parts, pieces, and people to win races right off the bat but we don’t have that foundation that we need so I think our priority right now is building that foundation, the process, and not skipping some steps along the way to help us be in better shape for Daytona but to start instilling the culture and the foundation like measuring the parts the right way, utilizing the sim right way…everybody gets held accountable. I feel those are the processes that are gonna take a while to instill into everybody,” Enfinger explained.
